Behavior definitions are NOT goal or objective statements.

Check your definition. If any of the following apply, please revise the definition:

Avoid the common mistake of writing a behavior definition so it looks like a goal or objective statement in an intervention or educational plan. This mistake is possible since educators often write goal statements.

A behavior definition does NOT describe:

• the conditions (e.g., When in small group reading instruction……)
• the criteria for success (e.g., 8 of 10 trials).

Tip: The conditions and criteria for success can be written later when the goals for behavior change are developed for the intervention plan .
