Some tutorials and review programs may have two links: 1. a general public access linkAND 2. one or more special links to courses or workshops that have been customized for specific learning groups from various universities and agencies.
When you are a member of a course or workshop group, take care to only use the assigned special link. This allows the course instructor to receive reports of your progress from the webmaster. Using the public access link will prevent your instructor from receiving reports and you will need to repeat the tutorials using the course link.
Login the same way every time.
Always enter the same name spelling and characters. Do NOT vary your login (e.g., Jean Smith, Smithy, J Smith, Jean S). Enter the same login to help your course instructor identify your work and give you credit.
Always try to work on a laptop or desktop computer.
It is much better to use a full size keyboard and good size screen (14″ or larger). If you work on a smartphone or tablet by tapping the tiny screen your learning progress may be slower. You may also tire more quickly and make more errors.
Silence your mobile device alerts and put them out of reach.
Attempting to multitask causes more errors and weaker understanding of the content. To get better results, one must carefully control the learning environment including the removal of distractions.
The tutorial sets require intense concentration and must be done sequentially.
This is because the concepts build upon each other. Each frame (window) of content requires you to fill in a missing word or answer a question as it progressively builds your response strength and knowledge.
Sets of frames should be completed without any interruptions.
This method of instruction requires your close attention to each and every word in the frames. Each frame require remembering content that has just preceded that frame. You cannot go backwards in the program to search for answers and must respond from developing memory.
Spread out your learning across several days per week.
Avoid long delays (e.g., a week or more). Do not try to rush through many sets in a short period.Plan for short rest breaks between sets, as needed.
Check your performance.
Your percent correct score will appear on the screen. If your score falls below a cut off point, you may be automatically returned to the beginning of that set of frames to try again. If you are struggling with earning high scores, assess and modify your study methods and schedule.
Increase your knowledge by repeating sets, as needed.
Repeating sets can be very helpful and is a common strategy for mastering new content and terminology. Users having English as a second language may find it helpful to work through some tutorials more than once.
